Is Salvation An Experience - Part 2

IS SALVATION AN EXPERIENCE – PART 2

In the previous post, (If you have not read it, you can read it here), we were considering the salvation of Saul with reference to Acts 9:1-19. Let us conclude this to establish if salvation is an experience.

Saul during this whole occurrence was the only one who saw Jesus even though people accompanied him on the journey, he alone met with Jesus while others heard the sound but saw no one "The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone." Acts 9:7 NIV. This confirms that salvation is a personal matter. That you are born into a Christian home doesn’t mean you are saved or that you have the worst background like Saul – You have killed, done atrocities too numerous to be mentioned doesn’t mean you can’t be saved. Salvation is open to everyone.

The question that readily comes to mind is why were the people with Saul not saved?

Saul’s salvation didn’t just happen that day, the seed had already been planted right from the time of his training under the best scholar – Gamaliel. "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today." Acts 22:3 NIV. From the studies, he knew Israel was expecting a Saviour, he also was there during Stephen’s testimony and witnessed the glory radiating on his face. Finally, Ananias was sent by God to pray with Saul so his eyes might be opened.

Salvation is an experience you cannot afford to miss while you are alive.

From the foregoing, it is established that man has a great role to play in reconciling people back to God “and gave us the ministry of reconciliation" 2 Corinthians 5:18 NIV.
Saul experienced what had never happened to him before and it changed his entire being – total transformation. Saul moved from being a persecutor to a propagator of the message. He got to a point that he was bold to say that “For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!" 1 Corinthians 9:16 NIV.

If you have experienced salvation like Saul, I congratulate you and encourage you to be steadfast as we await our final salvation at the appearing of our Lord Jesus in the clouds or at death, whichever comes first.

Salvation is an experience you cannot afford to miss while you are alive. It is the greatest gift God gave us freely courtesy of His son – Jesus. If you haven’t experienced salvation, it cannot be narrated fully until you experience it. The boy who stole the 20 Naira notes from his father changed after experiencing salvation. He even went to meet his father to confess the acts and since then, he has been living the Christian life. I invite you to accept the salvation Jesus purchased for you and experience His love in new ways you haven’t before.

Say this short prayer with me;

Lord Jesus, I thank you for giving your life for me. I confess with my mouth that I am sinner. I believe you died and rose again from the grave. Forgive me of all my sins and make me whole. Thank you for saving me, for in Jesus’ name I pray.

If you said this prayer sincerely, contact us so we can follow up and help you grow daily in your new faith.

IS SALVATION AN EXPERIENCE?

I remember those days when #20 note was big money. My Dad was earning well and he takes good care of us. A loving dad you will say. On a particular day, i don't even know whether it was the Devil that pushed me or i pushed myself to enter his room. I can't remember what i was looking for. As i ransacked the room, guess what i found?

Just at the edge of the wardrobe, notes of #20 and in fact MINT. I hit jackpot! Dipping my hand in it, i picked few notes without counting and left. On getting to school the following day, i lived a "big boy" lifestyle, buying food and assorted meat. Oh! How i love food. I wasn't a fan of alcoholic drink (sorry to disappoint you).

Went back some days later and still found the money there. This time i became more courageous to pick more. It continued for a few months until i got to his room and i touched the same spot, i couldn't find my bank (there was no ATM in those days). So disappointed i left. However, experience of missing money made a lasting impression on him and made him change location of his money.

How does this relate to the title above? Kindly read on. Does this have to be a topic of discussion? Everyone knows that Salvation is an experience, this is why it is called "Salvation Experience". But on discussing with people at different times, the salvation they claimed to have received hasn't changed anything about them.

Salvation is from the Greek word SOTERIA which means Salvation or Deliverance. From the word, it can be deduced that

1. There is someone who is powerless and needs saving.

2. There is someone holding the powerless person captive

3. There is a Saviour, someone who is powerful than the captor/oppressor.

Experience on the other hand as defined by Cambridge online dictionary is an event or occurrence which leaves an impression on someone.

Back to the question, let us consider one of the great conversion in human history (you might want to argue this) - Brother Saul. The story is found in Acts 9:1-19. Saul was both a Jew and a Roman citizen, educated by Gamaliel the most famous Rabbi at the time. A zealous man who practiced Judaism to the point of persecuting those "belonging to the Way" Acts 9:2

How Did Saul Get Saved?

While on his mission to bring people bound from Damascus, a bright light from heaven shone around him Acts 9:3. Something profound hit me in the next verse. Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting ME? (ESV) (Emphasis mine). WHAT? Saul thought he was dealing with fellow humans not knowing he was dealing with Jesus. No wonder the Bible says "for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye" Zechariah 2:8 (NIV) and Jesus while speaking a parable said "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 (NIV)

Whatsoever anyone does to you (lie, hurt, insult, attack e.t.c) know they did it to Jesus and not you. If Jesus could intervene in the case of the church, He will intervene in yours.

To be continued...

The Fuel Of Salvation

THE FUEL OF SALVATION

A story is told of a man who went fishing with his son and his son's friend. While at sea, a storm arose and as the ship was sinking, the father could only rescue one person. Naturally as humans, we will prefer to rescue our biological son. The father knowing that his son was saved while his son's friend wasn't saved spoke to his son these words “I know if you die now, you will make heaven because you have been saved but if your friend dies, he cannot make heaven because he is not saved”. The son thought about it and decided to die instead. That singular act made the son's friend give his  life to Jesus,

Painful to the father but he saved a soul from perishing.

What is Love? Dictionary defines love as a strong feeling of affection while the Bible calls God LOVE “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8 NIV. Love from this passage is from the Greek word AGAPE which means affection or benevolence.

Salvation has more to do with rescuing someone powerless from a captor. Man was ensalved as a result of sin but God had to save man because man was powerless. “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6 NIV. Religious activities couldn't give us salvation. Killing of rams couldn't. If that is still operational, rams will be so expensive that so many will not be able to afford it.

If it was difficult for someone to die for a good person (Romans 5:7), how much more will anyone want to die for a known sinner?. This confirms how helpless we were in delivering ourselves from sin.

However, God DEMONSTRATES His Love for us. Love is a verb because it involves action. God didn't just say it with His mouth or write it in the Bible the way some of us write love poems. He demonstrated it when we were still sinners - HALLELUJAH!. The implication of this action is that Jesus through His death reconciled EVERYONE back to God (Are you thinking its heresy?) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NIV. Jesus reconciled us back to God while we were sinners!

With the truth above, we cannot condemn anyone who hasn't accepted Jesus because they have been reconciled back to God. There is a need however to accept what Jesus did on the Cross which is the difference between you who is a Christian and the unbeliever you know. No wonder the Bible says "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." Romans 10:10 NIV.

How Do We Respond?

1. God's Love is the reason for our salvation.A
2. As Christians, we cannot afford to condemn anyone no matter how deep they are in sin. They are yet to know and experience God's Love.
3. As Christians, we have a duty to tell everyone about the Love of God.

Did you discover God's Love for you while reading through? You can accept Jesus by placing your hands on your chest and saying the words below sincerely…

Lord Jesus, I come before you today. I confess with my mouth that i am a sinner. I know you died for me. Come into my heart and be my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank you Jesus for saving me.

Congratulations if you just said the words above. Let us know so we can help you start your walk with God on the right foundation.
